Dora was my maternal grandmother; Bertha and Frieda were her sisters. Before they were born, their mother traveled, alone mind you, from Germany to the United States when she was only thirteen. They were strong women and when the times changed, they embraced the new with modern hairdos. I compiled their “Before and After” photos into one image as a tribute to them. Forward looking as they were, they would be delighted if they could have known that someday their spunk and humor would be available for all to see. Dora, Bertha and Frieda, this is for you.
